People still want plastic bottles, says Coca-Cola

plastic bottles

Coco Cola would not like to ditch single use plastic bottles because consumers are still interested in them. Customers are interested in them because they are lightweight and can be resealed.

Coco Cola is one of the biggest producers of plastic waste and they have pledged to recycle as many plastic bottles as it uses by 2030 but environmental campaigners say many coke bottles would go uncollected and would end up in landfill.

Coco Cola produces about three million tonnes of plastic packaging a year which is equivalent to 200,000 bottles per minute. Coke has also pledged to use a 50% of the recycled material in its packaging by the year 2030.

Ms Perez who is the company’s head of sustainability said they are not in a position to ditch plastic completely as some of the campaigners wanted as this would alienate customers and could hit the sales.
