Ballet becomes more inclusive of races

In a first, Shoe company Freed created ballet pointe shoes in hues of brown. Freed of London is one of the world’s leading shoe brands, and specializes in customized ballet shoes. A ballet dancer’s costume has always been available in pale shades of pink to complement the skin color of its dancers. However, Ballet Black- a major dance company in the UK has collaborated with Freed to create pointe shoes in more ‘inclusive’ colors.

With the growth of black dancers taking up the cultured dance form, the demand for ethnic shoe colors became all the more dire. In the turn of events, Freed is reported to also manufacture ballet tights more suited to the skin tones of Black and Hispanic dancers.

Although the American shoe Company, Gaynor Minden had already started the trend of manufacturing pointe shoes to embrace dancers of different races, Freed is believed to be a professional favorite. Hence, all the rave.
